According to a recent study reported at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, clothing is responsible for 92 million tons of solid waste dumped in landfills each year. At Zoi International, we make a small but significant attempt at upcycling used clothing that would otherwise land in landfills and pollute our soil, air and water. What do we do at Zoi International?
At Zoi International, we play an important part in apparel recycling thus contributing to the global efforts towards sustainability. We play an important part in creating a “circular economy” (Ellen McArthur Foundation, 2016), in which clothing sourced from several parts of the world continue to circulate in the economic system in a cascade of reuse and recycling. This not only provides for the needs of those who cannot afford to have proper clothing, or convert the used clothing into other usable products, it also saves the clothing from going to the landfills.
How do we make our huge operations of used clothing recycling possible at Zoi International?
Zoi International has a hygienic, spacious and well-equipped facility near the Kandla port in the western port city of Gujarat, India. At the facility that is spread over 100,000 square feet, we have the capacity to sort and grade approximately 30 million pounds of clothing. The trained manpower managing the logistics, sorting and grading, reprocessing, packaging, and shipping is our backbone and we take great pride in the fact that we train and enable our workforce to perform better for a brighter future for themselves as well as Zoi.
